GR YOGA
There are definitely some good places to take a yoga class in Grand Rapids. I've really only been to three, but they are all great. I began taking yoga at the YMCA of greater Grand Rapids about a year and a half ago. Get into Daniel's class if he is still teaching- he really KNOWS yoga- the fundamentals, the vocab and good practice. He does a short meditation in the beginning but it is not 'spiritual'- it is about breathing and attitude toward your day. YMCA yoga gets an A+, but only Daniel's class. The class is free unless you are not a member. A YMCA day pass is $10... I THINK. The next great yoga is at The Funky Buddha in east town. As of right now I think this is the only hot yoga (aka bikram yoga) place in town. Such an amazing, sweaty, feel good work out. A ton of my friends (even guys!) have tried it and love it. The third place is Seva Yoga in East Grand Rapids. First of all I like it because they sell Lululemmon apparel. Second, they have great retreats (which I haven't been to YET) like Bali and St. Lucia. Finally- it is a phenom workout (with Michelle, the owner). I have only been to her Mon 830am Seva yoga class that is alot of asana flows, and it was awesome. Being a Christian I was a little freaked out at first because there is a Hindu statue with incense and other idols. I was like WHAAA? what am I getting myself into?? Lol However, it was not spiritually or Hindu based, nor did I feel weird about. She didn't mention anything about Hinduism, otherwise I might have been uncomfortable enough to not go back. So yoga in Grand Rapids-it's a pretty good scene :)
