Hospitals

I am going to talk about something that is very near and dear to my heart, and also my work place: Spectrum Health Hospital! I began volunteering there when I was 14, worked in the cafeteria in high school and returned to volunteer and work in college. There are 3 prominent hospitals in Grand Rapids; Spectrum Health (Blodgett and Butteworth campuses), St. Mary's, and Metro Health. St. Mary's is known as a good place to go if you don't have insurance because they give out good patient care grants. I don't know that Metro has anything better than Spectrum Health except maybe a less busy ER, so you will get through the system faster. But Spectrum Health is the only level 1 trauma center in the greater Grand Rapids area. They are known for their cardiac care and ability to do heart transplants in the Meijer Heart Center. They also have a brand new, AMAZING and beautiful Helen Devos Children's Hospital. It is one of the newest high rise buildings on the medical mile (aka Michigan Street). Those buildings include Ferris State University's pharmacology school, Michigan State Med School, HDVChildren's Hospital, Butterworth main campus, Lemmen Holton Cancer Center, Fred and Lena Meijer Heart Center and Grand Valley State University CHS. It is a booming area and a seriously great hospital.
